Salam Fayyad

So, the big story today was that the Palestinian Prime Minister has decided to resign.

Salam Fayyad submitted his resignation to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The decision was announced earlier today and the resignation is planned to take place after the formation of a Palestinian national unity government.

However, he will officially leave his post no later than the end of March.

According to Al Jazeera, "His decision to resign is being seen as a goodwill gesture towards Hamas, as the group had repeatedly demanded that Fayyad step down."

Fawzi Barhoum, a spokesperson for Hamas, said that Fayyad's government was unconstitutional and worked for private interests.
